BJ Barone and Frankie Nelson recently became dads to a beautiful baby named Milo, and Canadian photographer Lindsay Foster captured the first time they held their newborn son.
Baby Milo was born on June 27. A surrogate mother who wasn’t related to either Barone or Nelson and who didn’t use her own eggs delivered the baby, and was “very happy to have given this gift.”
Barone, Nelson, the surrogate’s husband and two midwives accompanied the surrogate in the delivery room. The labor lasted for many hours.
Foster felt honored that she was able to witness it all in person, saying,
I am VERY hopeful that these images can make you feel the deep LOVE and admiration that everyone felt for this surrogate mom and the baby’s new parents. These Daddies will most certainly be two amazing parents. I look at these pictures and I immediately tear up.Barone and Nelson took their shirts off for the first cuddle moments. Skin-to-skin contact, also known as “kangaroo cuddling,” has a calming effect for newborn babies. The skin contact and the rhythm of a parent’s heartbeat are thought to reduce the baby’s stress level.
Via Foster’s photography Facebook page, Barone and Nelson shared the following message:
We are so lucky that we have a beautiful, healthy baby boy! All comments posted are respected, although we may not agree with the negative ones, the positive ones far outweigh the negative.Barone and Nelson concluded their message by saying love “has no colour nor gender nor sexual preference,” and is “unconditional.”
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This is a moment of pure love and acceptance. Milo is surrounded by unconditional love and he will grow up knowing many different types of families and accept everyone (intolerant people included).
