Nigeria's former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, is
reportedly dead. 68yrs old Akhigbe, whose position in the Armed Forces
Ruling Council (AFRC), headed by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, made him the
military vice-president in the government that return Nigeria to
democracy in 1999, allegedly died at the weekend in England.
It was gathered that Akhigbe had been battling with cancer for some time before his appointment as the chief of general staff, following the death of the then Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, in 1998.
Another source is however saying Akhigbe is not dead, afterall, but in critical condition.
